In 2006, Mount Vernon Presbyterian School, a fast-growing independent school in metropolitan Atlanta, was looking for consultants to lead its strategic-planning process following the successful completion of its Glenn campus.
Mount Vernon interviewed several firms, including the company which had facilitated the most recent process. The school’s board and staff leadership chose Lighthouse Counsel based on its tailored, personal, energetic approach to strategic planning, along with its depth of support and scope of expertise.
With the help of outstanding volunteers and staff and the coordination of the consulting team, a dynamic, action-oriented plan was developed, culminating in the communications plan and brochure design that is part of each PathWay strategic-planning process.

Building on the success of the strategic-planning process, Lighthouse Counsel was commissioned to prepare an advancement plan. Then, during an interim period without an advancement director, Mount Vernon engaged Lighthouse to provide ongoing support, recruit development staff, and work closely with the annual fund director. Lighthouse guided the staff and volunteers to implement the plan successfully.
Through Mount Vernon’s partnership with Lighthouse Counsel, the school’s annual fund increased by 50% in one year. Lighthouse Counsel also wrote and designed annual fund materials and the head of school’s newsletter. Lighthouse conducted the school’s exit interviews and parent, faculty and student satisfaction surveys, yielding highly valuable feedback.
